Fishing Trip to the Coronado Islands

I met up with one of my ol' high school buddies Scott Jiricek, his brother Darren and Darren's father-in-law Tim at the Seaforth Landing dock around 4:45am.

We left the docks at 5:30 on a boat called the Mission Belle to pick up some live bait before heading out to the Coronado Islands. It took us 2 hours to get from Mission Bay to the Islands. For the first half of the day I fished on the surface.

Having no luck on the surface I decided to try my luck fishing off the bottom. After about 10 minutes I caught a 24 inch rockfish, unfortunately to keep it had to be at least 30 inches. At the very last fishing spot before heading back to Mission Bay I caught a 12 inch sculpin, which I humbly took home.

It was a lot of fun, but by the end of the day I was wiped out; we arrived back at the docks at 5:45pm. I would like to go again this season, maybe for a half day on the kelp beds.
