First Month

Today marks my first month working for SDG&E. since I started I've been in training and will continue to train to be a mapping technician for the next 9 to 11 months. So far my classmates and the folks in the EGIM (Electronic Mapping Geographic Information Management) department are a pretty cool bunch; I like my job.

The training class is starting out at a pretty nice pace. Most of our time will be devoted to learning GFMS, a data base mapping program customized to draw representative interactive maps of SDG&E's electrical systems. Compared to what I have been doing for the last few years, working three part-time jobs and going to school full-time... training at SDG&E is a welcome transition.

I have till the end of June on my contract to work in the Instructional Media Lab at SDSU and I have yet to finish my master's. Now that I am working its no big rush, with two classes and the comps to complete I plan to finish by Spring 2004.
